Participants competing in three of the four Famously Rotorua swim series events or who swim more than 11.5km, will score a special edition event pack including a free towel, bottle and swim cap.
The first of the series takes place on Rotorua's Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake) tomorrow with the Ecomist-sponsored 2km or 750m open water swim starting at 5pm.
Event manager Martin Croft said the event was suitable for first timers and beginners through to experienced swimmers and people could register right up until the day itself.
The three other events in the Rotorua swim series, now into its third year, are on Waitangi Day at Lake Rotoma, February 28 at Blue Lake and March 13 at Lake Okataina.
Mr Croft said having the addition of the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series event helped raise awareness of the range of swimming options available in Rotorua's lakes and promoted the benefits of a healthy and fit lifestyle.
"This series aims to encourage both locals and visitors to get out and enjoy the range of activities available to them in a fun, well-organised, family friendly environment," he said.
"Rotorua is rapidly becoming the place for swimmers to come and test themselves in much the same way cyclists and triathletes have in the past."
